Getting older seems to hit you like a freight train. I remember hearing my parents say this when I was little, and I honestly thought they were just being dramatic, and maybe I am now too, but man do I just get it now.
I woke up and the bags are suddenly darker and the wrinkles look a whole lot deeper. I’m also noticing that I have new lines show up in new places I never noticed before, and it’s bittersweet. It’s sweet because it’s such a blessing to get older and to have my body to carry me through all these years. It’s bitter because I am noticing how I don’t look as youthful as I once did. I know many people can take growing older for granted, myself included, and I just want to take a minute to say that you are so beautiful the way you are! This day and age it is really difficult to accept the body we were given, and it’s even harder to do that when society is basically telling you not to. I think there is a way to age beautifully and to adjust your style and even makeup to flatter your features in a new light.
I’ve learned that you don’t have to completely erase your identity and face to be happy with how you look. You don’t have to adapt to a whole new person and copy a face in a magazine to feel pretty.
With age, our skin starts to lose hydration so we have to work really hard to replenish it. Drinking water and adding a good skincare routine can make all of the difference.
Along with skincare, the makeup products you choose can give you that youthful glow that we all are searching for. I’ve noticed that the older I get, the less makeup I prefer myself to wear. I think caked on makeup for older women, can sometimes have the opposite effect on what we’re going for. After experimenting with many makeup products, I’ve come to the conclusion that liquid foundation and little to no powders is the key to keeping the glow.
Start with a good liquid base foundation, and then layer on your cream bronzer and blush. I even use my bronzer and blush as eyeshadow. I finish my base with a liquid highlighter and then setting spray. It lasts all day and looks natural and beautiful.
I’ve put together some products that I use and swear by. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
